SET IN A SECLUDED COASTAL COCONUT PLANTATION MANAGED
BY THE LANDOWNERS WITH THE HELP OF THEIR FIJIAN STAFF
Our hosts live on site and you become their guests during your stay. They will help you understand Fiji and its protocol, introduce you to another lifestyle and care for your needs.
LODGE FACILITIES-
MEALS
Meals are supplied and purchased by your hosts. Enquire about a meal package from Bill Kesteven when making your booking. Guests pay cash for this service at the Lodge. (Note - there are no credit card facilities.)
FOOD - SEVUSEVU (GIFT)
We suggest you take a food gift of basic foods such as rice, bread, sugar and flour. Food may be purchased at Savusavu town where there is a selection of shops and also a fruit and vegetable market.
ALCOHOL
If you require liquor you should purchase it in Savusavu prior to travelling to Devo. Gulbadus and Morris Hedstrom both sell liquor.
MEDICAL
Bring your own basic medical supplies such as band aids, savlon, tinea powder, disprin, imodium, voltarin, strepsils and sunburn creams. There is a medical centre with a doctor at Tukavesi village about 15 kms away but no pharmacy. As there is a vehicle on site access to the centre ican be arranged at a small cost. The water at Devo is from a spring and is considered pure. Care should be taken about drinking water in areas where the source is unknown.
BANKS
Both Westpac and ANZ have banks in Savusavu. These banks will change foreign currency notes as well as travellers cheques for Fijian dollars. Bank hours are 9.30 am to 3 pm.
INSURANCE
We recommend you take out medical insurance. In an emergency you may need to be flown to Suva. Devo Plantation Retreat and its supporters are in no way responsible for any accident or misadventure suffered while on the property or in its vicinity. You enter at your own risk.
GUIDING
There is a very good guide who will happily show you the best birding spots and identify the birds for you. Enquire from Bill Kesteven as to the cost of this. It is recommended that you use a guide to familiarise yourself with the estate and also snorkelling spots.
MOSQUITOES
These can be a problem at times. Bring Aerogard or a fly spray. Coils are provided. Beds have mosquito nets. Long trousers and long sleeved shirts for evening wear may be advisable.
LIBRARY
Some books are available at the Lodge.
DRESS
Casual clothes are worn everywhere. On the beach normal swim wear is suitable. Remove foot wear before entering houses. Umbrellas are on hand in the event of rain.
